I’m driving this right now as my loaner vehicle while the LR4 is in for service. Damn, this thing is a snooze fest.

It’s a midsize crossover. What did you expect?

Is that the one with the six manual gears or the nine automatic ones and if it’s the latter how do you find it?

Eh, what do you expect from a Freelander?

Expected. Should have called it the Freeloader. Sorry, Freelander.

Someone traded an LR4 in to the Chevy dealership I work at for a brand-new Suburban LTZ.

How's the LR4 been? They've always interested me.

Its main competitors include the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander and Ambien.

It is only marginally better than the LR2. I just can’t get over how bland it is. Perhaps it’s because I got the base model black on black. There is absolutely nothing exciting about this vehicle. Why would anyone pay $40K when a CRV does everything better for much less? Oh right, because Land Rover.

Auto - it drives fine, just like every other small crossover on earth.

I’m so confused by LR at the moment. The Freelander went away, but then came back as the LR2? Then the Discovery became the LR3 and later the LR4? But now there's a Discovery Sport taking up the space of the old Freelander? And the Range Rover is a standalone product, but the Range Rover sport is actually just an LR4 in disguise? Do I have that about right?

Ambien is awesome, don't knock it.

You have that about right - and many of the name changes really only applied to North America.

My wife saw it and said: “Hmm, well I guess that’s what cars look like these days.” I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Ambien leads to a lot of time feeling nasty the next day...
That’s probably also true of these SUVs

All you need to know is that the Disco had such a bad reputation they felt the need to rename it (but I guess that has faded now). The international naming makes far more sense.

Meanwhile Lincoln goes off to cry in the corner, since you didn’t even consider it worth insulting their terrible naming scheme.

It's so crappy, too. I was shocked at how sub-par it felt. Though I guess the LR3 and 2 were kinda crap as well.
